Decide whether you or they choose the evening
Tickets make a complete, date-specific invitation. A voucher gives the couple more control over their diaries and seat preferences. Either can be personal: the difference is who makes the final booking decisions.
Check two seats, not a starting price
Find the live total for two actual places. A displayed starting price may refer to one ticket or a different performance. Check adjacent seats and any restrictions before paying. A voucher amount does not guarantee the same seats will be available at redemption.
Choose for both people
A favourite show for one person may be unfamiliar to the other. Talk about musicals versus plays, the tone of the story, performance length and access needs. If their tastes differ, give them a short list and a voucher rather than treating one preference as shared.
Make the shared time explicit
A note such as “choose a show and have an evening together” explains the gift better than a vague promise of a package. Travel, dinner and extras are separate unless the booked option includes them. Clarify whether you are also arranging those parts.
Decide who makes the booking
If you are buying tickets, confirm both people can attend and select their tickets together. If you are giving a voucher to a couple, nominate one recipient for the voucher email and explain that it is intended towards an outing for both of them. They can then agree a performance before booking. Avoid buying separate tickets in separate transactions and assuming they will be adjacent.
Check what the gift amount actually covers
Compare the full total for two tickets at the selected performance, including any charges shown at checkout. Do not calculate a pair from a headline starting price: that price may refer to a different performance or category. If you prefer a voucher, describe it as credit towards their theatre trip unless you have already secured the tickets. Check any remaining amount before confirming the booking.
A simple checklist for a gift for two
Confirm the production, both attendees, performance date, seat location or allocation, view restrictions, access arrangements and ticket delivery. Then decide how the surprise will be revealed. For flexible credit, check the voucher amount, recipient email, message and delivery schedule instead. Unused voucher credit remains available until expiry under the published terms; a voucher does not need to be spent in a single booking.
